This wine is 3/4 Viognier, which was matured in steel barrels. Viognier exudes lovely floral tones of lilacs and violets, complimented on the palate by crisp acidity. 1/4 of this blend is Roussanne, which was fermented and matured in Oak, lending nuanced oakspice and a touch of creamy/buttery notes to Roussanne’s natural fruit profile of honeysuckle and honeydew melon. This very-close-to-dry (off-dry) Riesling (at .5% RS, or residual sugar) exhibits a lovely bouquet of passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, and petrol tones. This Riesling is dry enough to course out with poultry, seafood or salads. However, the finish is not sharp or acerbic, as there is just a touch of sweetness to mitigate the sharp acids in a Riesling. This 2014 Sangiovese is celebrated by 3HRV winery staff and our tasting room patrons alike as one of the finest wines we’ve ever produced! Because we are growing the Sangiovese varietal in the warmer climate of Eagle Foothills AVA (Winegrowing Appellation), the end result is a fuller, lush, rich and savory drinking wine, not unlike those of Brunello di Montalcino or Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. The wine was matured partially in new French oak, to add oak spices and barrel tannins, allowing for a protracted, elegant finish. Its wonderful tart cherry, black cherry and currant fruit flavors coupled with naturally high acidity makes for a perfect pairing with tomato-based sauces and dishes. The wine is framed quite nicely with fine barrel tannins and just a hint of oak spice. At only a 174-case production, this Eagle Foothills Sangiovese is not long for this world! Get it while you can! Man, has this wine been popular since we rolled in out in Spring 2017! The 2016 vintage produced a hearty, robust crop for both white and red varietals, with grapes coming in at maximum ripeness and sugars. Well, when you grow a somewhat precocious varietal like Pinot Gris in a hot climate, the grapes morph into something altogether different. Our 2016 Pinot Gris from our own backyard vineyards at 3 Horse Ranch in the Eagle Foothills AVA exudes tropical notes of mango, melon, white peach and pear. Though a dry wine, it almost comes off with a hint of sweetness (that is glycerols in the alcohol playing tricks on your brain, for all you wine nerds out there). “Oh, no thank you, I don’t drink Merlot.” Ok, endulge me, try it, and cross it off your list. This Merlot/Cab Franc won the Gold Medal at the Idaho Wine Competition in 2016. “Oh, alright. Oooh, that’s really nice!” See. ;-) — This is a common conversation we have over this 2014 Merlot. It’s a fantastic drinker and food pairing wine that definitely over-delivers its price point. Wonderfully balanced with black fruit notes of blackberries, black currants, boisenberries and plums. Complimented by French Oak for richer mouthfeel and longer finish. Put it down for a while. We harvest near-perfect fruit under near-perfect conditions for the 2014 Vintage Syrah from the Snake River Valley AVA (Winegrowing Appellation). This rich, velvety medium-bodied Syrah showcases beautiful black fruits of plums, black currants, blackberries and boysenberries, with excellent integration of acids and tannins. Notes of roasted meats, cassis, earth notes from the vineyard, and black cherry are unmissable. The white-pepper trademark of Syrah is on full display from this well-developed vineyard. It’s the Perfect pairing for Turkey, Pork, Steak, Lamb, or even Smoked Salmon! It’s a killer Idaho Red that easily overdelivers its price point. Idaho Is Syrah Country!
The 2014 Vintage from the Snake River Valley AVA (Winegrowing Appellation) was gratefully ideal for most all of Idaho. Warm temperatures and an abundant, early crop produced picture-perfect grapes with soft tannins in the reds. Our 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon SRV is crafted from 100% Cabernet grapes from Idaho. This wine was in the cellar for almost 27 months prior to bottling. It is lush, dense and fruit-forward, with enticing oak spice, vanilla, cloves, and cedar. It has a robust body and long, satisfying finish. At 525 cases produced, this Vintage will surely go the way of the dinosaur, sooner than later. Thank You From @3HorseRanch ! 🤠🍷🍇
