This Single-Vineyard Chardonnay from our backdoor vineyards at 3 Horse Ranch is a wine to admire in the company of true wine lovers! In 2016, Eagle Foothills AVA (Winegrowing Appellation) continued to produce exceptional fruit for Whites and Reds alike. Layers of caramel, butter, marzipan, pear, peach, and crisp green apple lead to a delectable, almost honey-like texture in this classic Napa Valley California style Chardonnay for 2016. Richly oaked, it shows great balance with a rich mouthfeel and lingering finish. We only crafted 240 cases (10 barrels!) of this excellent vintage, so make your acquisitions now while there’s opportunity! This wine promises to drink well now through 2020! COMPOSITION: 100% Chardonnay. 13.4% ABV.

AGING: Drinks well now through 2019.

VINTAGE 2016: This Idaho wine grape crop rebounded after a negligible harvest in 2015. A November 2014 freeze sharply reduced the amount of wine grapes available for the 2015 vintage. A tremendous amount of work went in to reconstituting vineyards damaged from the Fall freeze. As a result, growers and vintners experienced 50-100% increases in crop yields in 2016 over those of 2015. This net result is a slightly larger than normal harvest for the State. Some growers even stopped picking the remainder of the bumper crop due to a lack of tank space for wine crush and fermentation. All the numbers were spot on in the fruit for acids, sugars, and flavors. 2016 may prove itself to be one of Idaho's best vintages.    

VINEYARDS: Snake River Valley, Idaho

WINEMAKING: Greg Koenig, Consulting Winemaker. Fruit parcels from our Rhone varietal vineyards were vinified separately. After free-run, light skin contact and fermentation in tank, partial malolactic fermentation occurred during barrel maturation in a mix of steel as well as new and old barriques - French, American and Hungarian oak in origin - for a period of 10 months.  The wine experienced a light filtration, fining, and cold stabilization prior to bottling Bottled: Summer 2017.

CELLARS: Vinted, Cellared and Bottled in Koenig Winery, Caldwell Idaho (Snake River Valley)

CLOSURE: Traditional Cork
