3 Horse Ranch Vineyards

Pinot Gris Dry 3HR-SV EFH 2016

Pinot Gris Dry 3HR-SV EFH 2016

Single-Vineyard EFH | continued=>

Man, has this wine been popular since we rolled in out in the Spring! The 2016 vintage produced a hearty, robust crop for both white and red varietals, with grapes coming in at maximum ripeness and sugars. Well, when you grow a somewhat precocious varietal like Pinot Gris in a hot climate, the grapes morph into something altogether different. Our 2016 Pinot Gris from our own backyard vineyards at 3 Horse Ranch in the Eagle Foothills AVA exudes tropical notes of mango, melon, white peach and pear. Though a dry wine, it almost comes off with a hint of sweetness (that is glycerols in the alcohol playing tricks on your brain, for all you wine nerds out there). Basically, it’s not only a perfect deck wine for the summer, it’s a perfect Turkey wine for Thanksgiving and beyond. 600 cases, folks. Happy Holidays from @3HorseRanch ! 🤠🍷🍁🍇

WINERY SPEC SHEET (pdf download): 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards

COMPOSITION: 100% Pinot Gris. 12.9% ABV.

AGING: Drinks well now through 2019.

VINTAGE 2016: This Idaho wine grape crop rebounded after a negligible harvest in 2015. A November 2014 freeze sharply reduced the amount of wine grapes available for the 2015 vintage. A tremendous amount of work went in to reconstituting vineyards damaged from the Fall freeze. As a result, growers and vintners experienced 50-100% increases in crop yields in 2016 over those of 2015. This net result is a slightly larger than normal harvest for the State. Some growers even stopped picking the remainder of the bumper crop due to a lack of tank space for wine crush and fermentation. All the numbers were spot on in the fruit for acids, sugars, and flavors. 2016 may prove itself to be one of Idaho's best vintages.

VINEYARDS: 3HRV Estate Vineyards (Eagle Foothills District, Snake River Valley AVA)

WINEMAKING: Greg Koenig, Consulting Winemaker. Fruit parcels from our Rhone varietal vineyards were vinified separately. After maceration and fermentation on skins, malolactic fermentation occurred during barrel maturation in a mix of steel as well as new and old barriques - French, American and Hungarian oak in origin - for a period of 5 months. Bottled: February 2017.

CELLARS: Vinted, Cellared and Bottled in Koenig Winery, Caldwell Idaho (Snake River Valley)

CLOSURE: Traditional Cork
