Rosé (Dry) of Sangiovese 2016

Eagle Foothills 2016 Single Vineyard Rosé

We harvested the 2016 Sangiovese grapes from the Eagle Foothills AVA  slightly ahead of schedule, which resulted in reduced sugars and higher acids. This allowed us to craft a magnificent classic dry rosé in the process. Minimal skin-contact (exposure of the fermenting juice to the crushed skins, seeds and pulp) yielded this perfect Champagne or Salmon hue to the wine...somewhere between light gold and the palest pink.  Wonderful fruit tones of mango, tangerine and nectarines, balanced with crisp acidity and a clean finish — this will pair with ANYTHING! Just a few hundred cases made, so jump at the chance to buy your own stash! Thank You from @3HorseRanch ! 🍷🍇

WINERY SPEC SHEET (pdf download): 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards

COMPOSITION: Rosé of Sangiovese. 13.5% ABV.

AGING: Drinks well now through 2019.

VINTAGE 2016: This Idaho wine grape crop rebounded after a negligible harvest in 2015. A November 2014 freeze sharply reduced the amount of wine grapes available for the 2015 vintage. A tremendous amount of work went in to reconstituting vineyards damaged from the Fall freeze. As a result, growers and vintners experienced 50-100% increases in crop yields in 2016 over those of 2015. This net result is a slightly larger than normal harvest for the State. Some growers even stopped picking the remainder of the bumper crop due to a lack of tank space for wine crush and fermentation. All the numbers were spot on in the fruit for acids, sugars, and flavors. 2016 may prove itself to be one of Idaho's best vintages.

VINEYARDS: Eagle Foothills District, Snake River Valley, Idaho

WINEMAKING: Greg Koenig, Consulting Winemaker. Fruit parcels from our Rhone varietal vineyards were vinified separately. After free-run, light-skin contact and fermentation in tank, partial malolactic fermentation occurred during barrel maturation in a mix of steel as well as new and old barriques - French, American and Hungarian oak in origin - for a period of 10 months.  The wine experienced a light filtration, fining, and cold stabilization prior to bottling.  Bottled: Summer 2017.

CELLARS: Vinted, Cellared and Bottled in Koenig Winery, Caldwell Idaho (Snake River Valley)

CLOSURE: Traditional Cork

MARKETS: Winery Tasting Room Patrons. Wine Club Members across the USA. Fine Dining + Premier Retail Wine Shops In Idaho. This wine is not distributed for retail sales in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Alaska and Wyoming
