Roussanne 2014

Roussanne 2014

A Chardonnay-ish Fave! | continued=>

This is a tiny-production 3HRV wine only sold at the our Ranch Tasting Room & Café! It also happens to be one of our favorite whites! Roussanne is a white grape varietal from the Southern Rhone Valley in France. It makes fuller-bodied wines that usually require barrel fermentation and/or aging to give the wine proper structure and ageability. Our 2014 Vintage Roussanne was aged in oak, and also underwent malolactic fermentation in the barrel, which lends the wine its nuanced creamy/buttery finish, similar to that of a Chardonnay. Our Roussanne has hints of honeysuckle, honeydew melon, and pear, but with solid natural acidity that refreshes the palate. The wine makes for an excellent pairing with buttered steamers or lobster!  Notta lotta this wine left! Get it while you can! Thank You from @3HorseRanch ! 🤠🍷🍇

Lightly oaked and medium-to-full bodied, this wine exhibits a gorgeous bouquet, rich textures, and well-balanced acidity. "This white grape native to the Rhone Valley in France carries a fascinating core of tropical and orchard fruit flavors in the nose and the flavors, backed by sleek food-friendly acidity and a finish of pear and lychee. It earned a silver medal at the 2015 Idaho Wine Competition." - Eric Degerman, Great Northwest Wine

🏆 EXCELLENT: Great Northwest Wine

WINERY SPEC SHEET (pdf download): 3 Horse Ranch Vineyards

COMPOSITION: 100% Roussanne. 12.9% ABV.

AGING: Drinks well now through 20198

VINTAGE 2014: Warm temperatures and an abundant, early crop produced picture-perfect grapes with soft tannins in the reds. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot had vintners most excited. With no rain, no early freezes and a harvest that was mostly done by Halloween (about two weeks ahead of usual), Washington vintners were all smiles. With no heat spikes and cool nighttime temperatures, the acidity balances in these young wines was ideal. Even though it was a warm harvest, generally the whites were of superb quality, while the reds garnered elegant tannins.

VINEYARDS: Columbia Valley, Washington

WINEMAKING: Greg Koenig, Consulting Winemaker. Fruit parcels from our Rhone varietal vineyards were vinified separately. After free-run, light skin contact, and fermentation in tank, partial malolactic fermentation occurred during barrel maturation in a mix of new and old barriques - French, American and Hungarian oak in origin - for a period of 12 months. The wine experienced a light filtration, fining, and cold stabilization prior to bottling. Bottled: October 2015.

CELLARS: Vinted, Cellared and Bottled in Koenig Winery, Caldwell Idaho (Snake River Valley)

CLOSURE: Traditional Cork

MARKETS: Winery Tasting Room. Wine Club Members across the USA. Fine Dining + Premier Retail Distribution to Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Alaska and Wyoming.
