COMPOSITION: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.1% ABV.
AGING: This wine gains complexity and pays dividends from cellaring. Drinks well 2017-2022.
VINTAGE 2013: This was Washington's warmest vintage since 2003. Still, it cooled off just in time for harvest. The resulting wines were less likely to tip over into overripe flavors or high alcohol levels, and picking proceeded at a normal pace. Total tonnage was up about 5 percent over 2012, a record for the state. The abrupt change in mid-September from hotter-than-normal to cooler-than-usual temperatures led some wineries to pick before grapes were fully ripe. Syrah was the star, although Bordeaux varieties did very well too. About the time the Merlot harvest was slowing down, Syrah and Cabernet kicked in. All of this allowed for a spread-out harvest without varieties running into each other. Winemakers really took their time and picked when they wanted.
